Suburban Noize Records Roster Cover Classic Hip-Hop Songs In New Compilation
By Ronnie Gamble ♦ Published 08/17/2009

2009-08-17 - Subnoize SouljazMembers of indie Southern Cali label, Suburban Noize Records, recently hit the studio together and came out with a slew of hip-hop covers, including one for the classic hip-hop record "F*** Tha Police" from N.W.A.

The Subnoize Souljaz recently posted their cover of the N.W.A. classic on their MySpace page (MySpace.com/SubnoizeSouljaz), featuring Kottonmouth Kings' Daddy X, Saint Dog and the return of their comrade Judge D. The track appears on the group's new album, Blasts From The Past, hitting stores later this month.

"When NWA released 'F*** Tha Police' it was so radical and shocking. It was a hip-hop track that was punk rock in its attitude and delivery in every way," said Daddy X about the inspiration behind recording the hip-hop classic. "The song was just so scary and controversial, but this was before the LA riots. I remember at that time the LA police were in a complete Nazi state that they used to raid punk rock shows with mace and billy clubs.

"At the same time I remember unheard of acts of violence and intimidation within the black communities that set off a firestorm of rebellion. We thought it would be a great song to cover because it was such an important piece of music, not only to us as musicians but to the history of hip-hop. This was our way of paying respect," he continued.

The Blasts From The Past album features the entire Sub Noize battalion covering fans' favorite hip-hop tracks in one full album of 14 tracks.

Some of the covers include Cypress Hill's Sen Dog and Daddy X from Kottonmouth Kings rocking the Public Enemy/Anthrax anthem "Bring The Noize"; Dirtball covering "Microphone Fiend"; DGAF's Chucky Chuck spitting on Snoop Dogg's "Murder Was The Case"; Judge D paying tribute to LL Cool J with "Mamma Said Knock You Out"; while Potluck covers the Luniz "I Got 5 Five On It"; and Richter spitting over MC Breed's "Ain't No Future In Yo Frontin'"

It hits stores August 25th.
