While the trend of followed mostly by up-and-comers, rapper Yung Joc is taking a page outta the rising artist's handbook -- release your music for free.
That's exactly what Joc is doing for his upcoming, third album Grind Flu, via his own Swagg Team Entertainment imprint.
On Tuesday (August 11), the Atlanta rapper will be releasing the follow-up to his 2007 album Hustlenomics online for free, via his newly launched website SwaggTeamEnt.com.
"Fans all over the world have been eagerly waiting for me to release a new album and I felt the time was right at this very moment to release Grind Flu for free, gift it to my fans and do things my way," Joc said.
The upcoming album's first single is also titled "Grind Flu," and features Montana Da Mac, a rising rapper also from Atlanta.
Joc's debut, New Joc City, eventually went on to reach gold sales thanks to the success of his smash single "It's Goin' Down". However, his 2007 sophomore release, Hustlenomics, failed to reach the same numbers, selling around 300,000 despite being packed with star-power such as Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, The Game and Diddy to name a few.
On Grind Flu, he chose to go with more rising talent than seasoned veterans. Artists such as Nicki Minaj, Yung Ralph, OJ Da Juiceman, and Pleasure P are featured. However, he does have some heavyweights like Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, and original producer Nitti.
Download it for free on August 11.
On the business side of things, Yung Joc has been hard at work trying to get his label, Swagg Team Entertainment, off the ground. His roster includes HotStylz and the GS Boyz who were responsible for the YouTube phenomenon, "Stanky Legg." Their video passed the 3 million-view mark within a few weeks.
