After a highly successful debut mixtape, titled A Matter of Time, that helped him create a buzz online, as well as college campuses, Mike Posner garnered the attention of labels across the board.
This week, the Michigan native inked a deal with J Records, revealing the news via a YouTube video showing him in the label offices making it official.
"Mom, are you proud of me for signing a record deal?" Posner told him mother right after signing on the dotted line. Then, he pops some champagne to celebrate. "I can't think of a better way to start my senior year of college than by signing a record deal with J Records. I've been hard at work in the studio all summer and can't wait to share my music with the world," he added.
"At the tender young age of 21, Mike Posner is already a gifted artist, producer, writer, performer and obviously student, as he got into Duke University where he still has his senior year ahead of him," says Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO, RCA/JIVE Label Group. "He is an artist that is already touching his peers through a vibrant on-line presence of his songs. Hats off to Peter Edge for bringing Mike into the company. We are excited."
The deal comes three months after we featured him in our "Scouting Report" column, where he spoke to us about his beginnings and future on campus at Duke University where he attended.
Posner's debut album, The New Deal, is expected in the near future. Further details were unknown at press time. So, stay tuned for updates.
