The Scratch DJ Academy Releases Tutorial Book

2009-07-07 - Scratch DJ AcademyThe Scratch DJ Academy, a school founded by RUN DMC's Jam Master Jay in 2002, recently released its first turntable tutorial, titled On The Record: The Scratch DJ Academy Guide.

According to a press release, the book attempts not only to direct DJ hopefuls in their scratching endeavors, but also to familiarize readers with the lifestyle and culture of other successful DJs who've made an impact on the art form.

The book contains interviews with over 45 celebrity DJs including DJ AM, Grandmaster Flash, Q-Bert, and DJ Skribble, all of which give insight on the history of the art form, the art of the mixtape, and how to handle gigs, among other tips.

The Scratch DJ Academy, according to their website, has one goal: to provide unparalleled education and access to the art form of the DJ and producer. They want to bring together in other categories.

In addition to the new book, aspiring DJs can pay $300 for a six-week turntabling program at one of the academy's three locations: New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles.

On The Record: The Scratch DJ Academy Guide is out now, and can be purchased through Amazon.com for $9.99.
