Carmelo Anthony Inks Label Deal With Block Entertainment

By Randall Stevens   |  Published 05/22/09

carmeloanthonyCarmelo Anthony is hoping to take his Denver Nuggets to the NBA Finals by beating the Los Angeles Lakers. But aside from his basketball career, he's also trying to get thing in the music business going as well.

The basketball superstar recently inked a deal with Atlanta based label Block Entertainment -- responsible for the success of Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe, and the Boyz N Da Hood -- for a joint venture with his own Kross Entertainment imprint.

Via the deal, Anthony's label will focus on breaking their Atlanta artist Diego Ca$h, who has made a name for himself on the mixtape circuit thanks to collabos with heavyweights like DJ Drama and DJ Smallz.

"I am privileged to be in a position where I am able to work with such seasoned individuals in the music industry," Ca$h said. "I plan to continue to create quality rap music while furthering my brand as a rap artist."

Anthony is well aware that crossing over from sports to music isn't the easiest, even with his celebrity status.

"By joining forces with Block Entertainment, I am looking forward to a great business relationship," the Nuggets stars said. "In addition to long term musical success, this movement will mark new territory in not only the Atlanta market but all over the country as well."

Melo's Krossover label also includes Philadelphia rapper Cassidy.

As far as the NBA, Carmelo Anthony and his Denver Nuggets team beat the Lakers Thursday night (May 21) in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The series stands at 1-1, and will meet the Lakers on their home court on Saturday, May 23.
