When T.I. surrenders to authorities to begin serving his one-year-and-one-day jail sentence for felony weapons charges, he will report to an Arkansas federal prison.
That day is coming too. Next Tuesday (May 26), the rapper is scheduled to begin his sentence.
According to the Associated Press, paperwork filed in court shows that Tip has until noon that day next week to report to the Forrest City low-security federal prison.
His lawyers had tried to place him at prison closer to his Atlanta home, but couldn't make it happen.
T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) originally faced a much steeper sentence, but instead agreed to plead guilty as a part of a plea agreement where he would perform 1,500 hours of community service and receive a reduced sentence.
In May, T.I. was officially sentenced to prison by a judge after his plea deal was accepted. He had to complete 1,000 hours of community service before sentencing, pay a $100,000 fine, and agree to complete another 500 hours of community service after his time behind bars was completed.
The AP reports that the rapper's 305 days of home detention he served while awaiting trial would be credited, so he's expected to stay at the Forrest City prison for just two months.
Despite his celebrity status, a prison spokesperson said T.I. would be treated like any other prisoner coming into the facility. "Unless there are custody or security concerns, all incoming inmates are placed in general population," R.D. Weeks told the AP.
Once released, T.I. will be on probation for three years.
