The Orlando Magic dethroned the defending NBA champions on Sunday (May 17), beating Boston Celtics 101-82 in Game 7, ending their season in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
It was the Magic's second straight victory, giving them the go ahead to advance to the East finals to face off against Lebron James' Cleveland Cavaliers for a spot in the NBA finals.
According to reports, the lose was the first time the Celtics -- who won their record 17th title last year -- had lost a series after holding a 3-2 lead.
"I would like to say we played the game exactly the way we wanted. We actually played it better," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said, following the game. "When you look at a team that's 32-0 when leading a series 3-2 and then you win by 19 points, that's a big win. I can't say that I've ever had one that I've ever been happier with."
The Magic's Dwight Howard scored 12 points with 16 rebounds and five blocked shots, while Hedo Turkoglu had 25 points with 12 assists.
Ray Allen scored 23 points for Boston, and Paul Pierce had 16 before they were taken out of the game at 2:30 left when the Magic were up 99-78.
The Celtics were shorthanded during the playoffs, missing Kevin Garnett to injury. But, the team managed without, battling their way through seven-overtime, seven-game series against Chicago in the first round, before going through a seven-game series against the Magic.
They didn't go down without a fight though. That's for sure.
"We still felt like this was a team that could have gone to the championship and won it, regardless of the injuries," Pierce said. "It felt like we ran out of gas."
Now, the Magic will face the Cavs. They beat them 2-1 in the season series, but the Cavs have swept both of their postseason matchups, so far, and have been waiting for their next opponent since last Monday.
We'll see if Orlando can play at the top level the Cavs have been the entire post season.
In the west, the Lake show moved on to the West Finals early Sunday, as they closed out the Rockets in Game 7, 89-70.
With Yao Ming out, Gasol scored 21 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, while Kobe scored just 14 in 33 minutes. The Lakers looked more like top-seeded team they were supposed to be Sunday, after inconsistent performances throughout their series with Houston.
Now, the Lakers will take on Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets in the West Finals. They will try to reach the NBA finals for the second straight year.
