After a full year of keep guests belly’s full of southern-inspired cuisines and sending them rolling in their seats with laughter, the J Spot Comedy Club hosts its one year anniversary celebration with the Inaugural J Spot Comedy Awards this Wednesday (May 13) at its Los Angeles location.
The anniversary celebration will honor comedians who have made the comedy club one of the hottest new places for laughter in Los Angeles. Owner and comedian J. Anthony Brown is also launching the event to show appreciation to the faithful fans and friends who have supported him along the way.
"It doesn't seem like it's been a full year that we've been open. The club has done remarkable things," said Brown. "And the celebration is just my way of showing respect to the patrons and comedians who come to the club night after night to hone their craft."
For the Inaugural J Spot Comedy Awards show, comedians will be honored in categories such as "Best Male & Female Comics", "Best Host", "Rising Star", "Best Impersonation", and "Best Original Jokes."
Some of the nominees include G Thang, Grady, Henry Coleman, Scruncho, Roger Rodd, Melanie Camacho, Yvette Funny Lady, Carmen Barton, and Vanessa Fraction, among others.
The event will feature entertainment by guitarist Jose Rios and vocalist Anjolee Williams, who will serenade and welcome guests to the reception where they will meet and greet, interview with press, and dine in on some of the J Comedy Club's signature dishes. Following will be a special tribute video called Comedy Legends which will look back on comedians who have paved the way, as well as a special opening performance by the sketch comedy group, Slow Children Crossing.
The show's highlight, The J Anthony Brown Roast, will feature commentary from celebrity guests and friends, as well as special performances by 16-year-old rising star Isaiah Kelly and Jay Lamont of BET's "Comic View".

Comedian J. Anthony Brown opened the club last year as a way of reaching back to the next generation of comics in the Los Angeles area.
It offers an upscale atmosphere, down south hospitality and inviting charm. It also boasts a full bar and restaurant, with a menu that includes health-conscious, diabetic-approved entrees and appetizers of the most succulent, mouth-watering cuisine. Club goers dine on blackened catfish, shrimp with grits and chicken and waffles.
Since its opening, comics to grace the stage have been Earthquake, George Wallace, Sommore, Faizon Love and Sheryl Underwood. On Wednesday nights, Brown personally hosts the events, which can be viewed live via the Internet from the JSpotComedyClub.com website, and since May 1, Live at the J Spot can be heard on the Foxxhole Channel on Sirius Radio.
