The Roots and Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek) are among the headliners for this upcoming weekend's return of Audiotistic to Southern California, after a six-year hiatus.
The festival, which mashes electronic and hip-hop music together for a 9-hour evening of fun, will officially make its return after years of successful events, beginning in 1996.
This year's returns comes with with an impressive line-up that includes more than 30 local, national and international acts spread across four rooms. Some of the acts include The Roots, Chromeo, Above & Beyond (featuring Zoë Johnston), Armand Van Helden, Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek), Goldie, The Cool Kids and Z-Trip.
"Our performance in 2000 at the festival is something that we've carried with us throughout our career, the connection with 35,000+ fans, cutting across genres. Being able to participate in this event after its six-year hiatus brings back fond memories," said The Roots' Black Thought.
Started in 1996 by festival organizers Meelo Solis and Pasquale Rotella, one of SoCal's originators of the outdoor festival, the event had grown to 35,000+ plus music fans by 2002, featuring acts such as Jurassic 5, DJ Dan, Common and The Roots along the way. In 1998, at a time when musical styles were clearly defined by radio and magazine trends, Audiotistic became one of the first platforms that successfully bridged hip-hop and electronic music.
With an eager ear for innovative and distinctive music, Meelo Solis is keyed up for 2009's lineup.
"Music is almost always a collaborative collection of influences and Audiotistic is designed to deliver that soundscape to its fans through a talented and varied array of artists," said founder Solis. "And, in the end, it's all about giving the kids what they ask for -- good music."
Co-headliner, Armand Van Helden adds, "I love music. I love it when thousands of people are getting off all at once. I have too much fun doing what I'm doing and I'm really excited to be a part of this lineup."
Unlike any other festivals, Audiotistic showcases the wide-ranged styles that define the turntable culture -- from expert scratch-master turntablists, to remix prom-pop up dancefloor anthems, to the more traditional rave fare of trance, house and jungle. With artists like Junior Sanchez, DJ set by Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Flosstradamus, Kill The Noise, DJ Funk, Them Jeans and others, the event introduces the avid music lover to the world's best purveyors of hip-hop, rock, indie rock and dance.
So on Saturday (May 9), concertgoers will be rewarded with nine hours of the best MCs and the best of what the dancefloor has to offer.
Audiotistic is an all-ages show and will commence from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. PT. Tickets are on sales at Groovetickets, either by phone at 877.71.GROOVE, or online at GrooveTickets.com. Tickets sale from $46-$60, pre-sale and general admission.
