The work behind the upcoming Before I Self Destruct album has been ongoing for quite some time. In addition to numerous delays, 50 Cent has constantly updated the album every time the date has been pushed back.
At this point, he's feeling a little different about the album. In an interview with MTV, the rapper explained why he's not as excited today, as he was when he first wrote the material for his final album on his Interscope Records contract.
"It's about 30% of what I had when I felt like I was finished," Fif' explained. "The production [changed.] Dre made a lot more of the music that's on the actual album now, and I re-wrote some concepts 'cause to me sometimes, it would sound like I'm absolutely out my mind if I play you the music, but it gets dated because I've been playing it to myself for so long that I'm no longer as excited as I was when I wrote it for the first time. So, I'm making new material and adding it to the actual project.
"I've been conceptually doing some things that directly apply to the initial concept of Before I Self Destruct and I wrote, produced and directed my first screen play. It'll actually be in the album packaging," he added.
The album was originally planned to be released in 2007, but was pushed to the side to make way for 50's Curtis project, and pushed to 2008.
In late 2008, 50 released the album's first single "Get Up," followed by the second "I Get It In," both of which performing well under expectations.
At press time, Before I Self Destruct didn't have a release date, but the rapper has stated that it will hit stores a month after Em's Relapse album -- due May 19 -- hits stores.
