Veteran rapper Ice-T recently announced plans to launch a digital-based record label, in hopes of bringing hip-hop's sound to its essence ... to music similar to the Tupac's and and Biggie's.
The 51-year-old rapper-turned-actor recently told the New York Daily News that the label would go through EMI, and that the music he churns out won't be the "bumblegum pop" you hear on the radio.
"I'm trying to get back to more hip-hop," Ice told the paper. "To me, music right now is like disco. It's very sing-songy, and nobody's dealing with content. That's what I miss. I miss Tupac and Big. You got Lupe Fiasco and TI now, but in general, we're swamped with bubblegum pop."
Although he's just revealed this news, he's already got artists on dock. However, its name is undecided.
"We signed about five groups," Ice-T says. "We've got an artist from L.A., a group called Certified from Washington State, Born Twice from Houston, and a Korean kid from New York. I'm playing the whole map."
Its no secret Ice-T isn't a fan of the new generation of artists flooding the radio and internet, especially artists like Soulja Boy. Last year, he and the teen rapper got into a war of words over YouTube after Ice-T called Soulja Boy's music "garbage."
Although, he later apologized, Ice never took back his opinion about the young rapper's music.
