Studios Combat 'Wolverine' Piracy With Multiple Endings
By Tim Boswell ♦ Published 04/29/2009

2009-04-29 - WolverineAfter leaking to the internet wayyy before the film's release, the makers of "Wolverine" went back to the drawing board to try to figure out a way to combat the piracy issue.

What did they come up with? Multiple endings.

After all, the Hugh Jackman film has endured several problems before its opening weekend. In addition to an online security breach, there were also delays in its Mexican release due to the widely publicized swine flu breakout.

According to reports, the final cut of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will feature multiple secret endings that run after the closing credits. However, these endings will differ from print to print -- meaning you'll have to see the film multiple times in different theaters to view every ending.

At press time, the exact number of different endings was unclear. But, MTV says that at least two of these post-credit scenes have been identified online.

First Showing caught a screening of the film that featured "Deadpool" in the print's closing. While the website wouldn't disclose the details of the scene, it seems likely that this ending will pave the way for the oft-rumored "Deadpool" spin-off starring Ryan Reynolds.

SlashFilm attended another showing of "Wolverine" and experienced a different final scene. In this print's alternate ending, Logan is seen drinking at a bar in Japan. He speaks in Japanese with a barmaid, telling her that he's not drinking to forget something -- he's drinking to remember. This ending gels with Hugh Jackman's previously stated desire to see Wolverine head to Japan and embrace the character's samurai roots.

These Easter Egg endings aren't anything new to superhero films. If moviegoers remember, Samuel L. Jackson made a surprise appearance as Nick Fury in "Iron Man," and then in "X-Men: The Last Stand", Professor X was seen returning from beyond the grave in an after-the-credits scene.

Hopefully, all the internet movie buffs will fill us in on all the ending for the upcoming "Wolverine" film.

The film hits theaters this Friday (May 1).
