An unemployed mother of three got the best news of her life last week in Elkhard, IN, when she matched all six numbers of Wednesday's (April 15) Hoosier Lottery drawing, winning more than $6.5 million in cash.
According to local news station WSBT, Shantay Britman broke down in tears of joy after she learned that she was holding on to the winning lotto ticket.
She stopped at a local 7-11, where she regularly buys lotto tickets, on Thursday (April 16) to get gas before heading to school at IU South Bend, and got the shocking news.
"I can pay my bills. Oh, my God," Britman told local news cameras. "I never play $5. I always win a free ticket. And last night I came and I was like, well, just give me five."
The money couldn't of come at a better time for Britman. She told WSBT that she had been laid off last July, and has been unemployeed ever since. Her job loss forced her to move into her mom's apartment with her three children.
According to the report, the area's unemployment rate climbed to 18%, the highest in the state. Store employees say it's about time for some good news.
So, what will Britman do first after winning? What most would do: go on vacation. "Go on vacation. I'm taking my kids to Disney World," she said.
