Remember former USC quarterback Todd Marinovich? He was a superstar in college, and was expected to make the same impact in the NFL. However, when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1991, he ended up being a dud.

Anyway, the 39-year-old former NFL prospect surfaced Friday (April 3), when he was arrested in Newport Beach, Calif. outside of his mother's house for failing to show up at a drug rehabilitation progress review.

According to the local paper the Contra Costa Times, Marinovich was taken into custody and held at the Orange County Jail without bail.

Marinovich failed to appear at a progress review hearing on Monday (March 30), and a warrant for his arrest was issued. He was reportedly sentenced two years ago to another shot at drug rehabilitation, despite given the opportunity several times in the past. He was ordered to spend a year at the Spencer Recovery Center in Laguna Beach.

The former quarterback was also given five years probation, which if violated, he could face three years and four months in prison.

The paper said that the charges against Marinovich stem from his early morning arrest in August 2007 in a parking lot by the Newport Pier, where he was skateboarding in a prohibited area. When police arrived, Marinovich took off on the skateboard, then picked it up and ran when approached by police. Police finally caught up to him blocks away, and after a search, he was found in possession of speed, as a spoon and syringe.

Ever since he was released from the Raiders in the 90s, he has had a string of drug arrests -- nine in all. Through Orange County, Marinovich has been busted on charges such as possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and possession of a hypodermic needle.

He was first arrested in January 1991 while at USC. After entering a drug-counseling program, charges were eventually dropped.
