Lil Wayne Sues Filmmaker QD3 Over 'The Carter' Documentary
Published 04/03/2009, by Allen Starbury

Lil WayneLil Wayne has reportedly filed a lawsuit against filmmaker QD3 and his production company over a documentary named after hisĀ Tha Carter album series.

According to papers obtained by RadarOnline, the rapper filed suit in Los Angeles late last month, citing breach of contract, fraud by intentional misrepresentation, constructive fraud, and invasion of privacy. In addition to QD3, his QD3 Entertainment and its affiliate Digerati Holdings, LLC are also named in the suit.

The suit was filed over a "scandalous portrayal" of Weezy in him in the film titled The Carter, during this year's Sundance Film Festival in January where they planned to seek a theatrical release.

Weezy said he was promised that he'd be given approval over the final cut of the film before its showing, but claims they failed to do so.

In the lawsuit, it is explained that in 2007 Wayne was approached about the documentary, which QD3 and Digerati stated would offer an "in-depth look at the artist Dwayne 'Lil Wayne' Carter, Jr., proclaimed by many as the 'greatest rapper'." By January 2008, the parties had reached an agreement.

They agreed that Lil Wayne would make himself available via photos and video for the 90-minute documentary, and in exchange he was to be allowed to review "various scenes of the picture and have approval rights as to the final cut of the picture."

In late December, one of the first cuts of the documentary were submitted to the rapper's manager, who rejected parts of the footage, asking that the specified content be removed -- which Weezy and his team felt painted him in a negative light -- before the film be showcased. Weezy's manager also submitted his demands in writing to the production company.

Despite the demands, the film was debuted at the 2009 Sundance festival with the footage intact.

Lil Wayne and his Young Money Entertainment are seeking an injunction barring the distribution of The Carter, which they claim would cause damage to his reputation and career.

QD3 is certainly a legend in his own right as he has been sued by al least a few of his previous colaborators in more than one feature. Is there a pattern here? Could it be that he is just a bad businessman or a scam artisit. Hmmmmm…
