Tennessee rapper Brikks was gunned down Saturday night (March 28), as a part of a home invasion robbery in Chattanooga, Tenn., while his friend is in critical condition.

According to the Chattanoogan, 33-year-old Brikks (real name: Henry Brown VI) and his friend Josquin Jackson were sitting in the living room of their Webb Oaks Court, when another man (Dexter Talley) showed up. Shortly after he arrived, he left the home to "get his cellphone," then returned shortly after with three other men equipped with guns and duct tape.

Jackson, from his hospital bed, told police that Talley and the other men duct taped their wrist and began robbing then, taking their wallets, jewelry and keys.

During the robbery, one of the men "became agitated," said Jackson, and shot Brikks in the chest. Jackson then wrestled with one of the men before getting shot himself. After being shot, he laid quietly on the floor until the men left.

Jackson ran outside for help, and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. As for Brikks, he was dead when police finally arrived.

Dexter Talley has been arrested, and charged with several offenses, including felony murder, two counts of especially aggravated robbery, one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Brikks was one half of the duo known as Pinney Woods, which also includes rapper Mobb. They were signed to California-based label Black Ice Records, a subsidiary of the Universal Music Group.

Tennessee's local rap community said that Pinney Woods are on the brink of making it.

"It doesn't help that it happened to this guy, who was doing particularly well with his career and was on the brink of making it," local rapper J-Hubb told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "They actually were past the point of trying to make it. They had just walked in the door, so to speak."

Another local artist by the name of Madd Dreams said he thinks the killing was caused by jealousy over their success, and plans to write a tribute song about Brikks' murder.

"I feel like somebody had a grudge against them because they were on, because they were doing better than somebody else," he said.
