Actress-comedian Wanda Sykes may just get her own late-night, Saturday show. She is reportedly finalizing the deal with Fox.
According to Reuters, the hour-long show would premiere in the fall, succeeding the recently canceled sketch comedy show "MadTV."
It is said to be topical, featuring a panel of recurring guests taking on issues such as politics and pop culture. Additionally, Sykes would appear in field segments as well.
Sykes currently co-stars on CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine," and previously headlined the sitcom "Wanda at Large" on Fox.
Next month, she is set to host the 2009 White House Correspondents Association dinner.
The unnamed show would bring a rare female presence to late-night television, which is dominated by white male hosts such as David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Conan O'Brien.
At press time, it's unclear how the Sykes show will affect the fate of Fox's other Saturday late-night series, "Talkshow With Spike Feresten." He was recently given a trial run in the midnight slot.
