Prodigy Sues Indie Label, Family Struggles Financially
Published 03/30/2009, by Allen Starbury

ProdigyMobb Deep's incarcerated member, Prodigy, filed a lawsuit against his label Vox Music Group last Monday (March 23), claiming they owe him more than $30,000, money he's in desperate need of.

According to the New York Post, the rapper (real name: Albert Johnson) claimed, in court papers, that Vox agreed to pay him $10,300 a month, but had missed three payments. On top of that, they've failed to give him a semi-annual royalty accounting statement.

"These breaches ... have put Prodigy's family in financial peril," the documents said.

The paper reports that due to the failed payments, Prodigy's home is in danger of going into foreclosure.

Prodigy is currently serving a 3 1/2 year prison sentence, stemming from gun possession from October 2006.

His group Mobb Deep, which consists of himself and producer/rapper Havoc, are signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit Records.

Does not mean he is broke just because he is suing and the papers aggressively state the case. Would you expect the papers to say he does not need the money? On the other hand, this would not surprise me. Mobb Deep acted like some hoes when 50 Cent gave them sports cars upon signing to G-Unit. Is that not how pimps deal; gifts but no money. They sounded like new artists.
