Gospel singer BeBe Winans was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault last week, following a dispute with his ex-wife in Nashville.

According to reports, the Grammy-winning singer had a warrant out for his arrest on Wednesday (March 11), after his wife Debra Winans told police he pushed her to the ground following an argument at their home in Nashville on the eve of Valentine's Day last month.

"He pushed me to the ground in front of my children," Debra Winans told CNN. "When you're married to someone known all over the world, it has serious challenges."

The couple divorced six years ago after 16 years of marriage. During their time together, they had two children -- a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.

He was booked into the Davidson County jail Thursday (March 12), and was later release on $1,000 bond.

Winans denies the abuse claims, saying in a statement that "the allegations are inconsistent with my character."

The 46-year-old singer is currently a judge on BET's television show "Sunday Best."
