T.I.'s trip to a Brooklyn middle school was canceled Friday (March 6), when school officials argument whether cameras for the rapper's MTV reality show "T.I.'s Road to Redemption" should be allowed.
According to reports, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education said Friday that the show was too "commercial" a venture to be allowed in Crown Heights' Middle School of the Arts, thus the appearance was canceled.
"Unfortunately due to security concerns that arose with the large press interest/response to this event, we have had to close the day event to press," a PR rep coordinating the day told BallerStatus.com.
Before officials canceled the event, everyone -- including students, parents and faculty at the school -- were excited about meeting the rapper.
"We're very excited about his visit if it's going to help the children do positive things with their lives," Principal Susan Hobson-Ransom told the New York Daily News.
"It's a positive spin on a negative situation," said Seth Byrd, a parent of one of the school's students.
T.I.'s trip to New York isn't a total loss though. He will also appear at The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx, followed by a private cocktail reception, hosted by VIBE in honor of T.I. and his April VIBE cover.
MTV cameras will be on hand to film the occasion for his "Redemption" show.
