Following a trio of shows in intimate venues to re-introduce herself and some of her new music to U.S. fans, Lady Sovereign has announced a full-fledged North American tour, as she readies a brand new album titled Jigsaw.
The pint-sized rapper will embark on a month-long flurry, kicking off May 1st in Toronto. She will then hit a slew of cities including Boston, New York, Philly, DC, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles, before wrapping things up at San Diego's House of Blues on the 28th.
Lady Sov began playing small clubs just two years ago, shortly after signing to Def Jam after impressing Jay-Z, but then moved up to becoming the main supporting act for Gwen Stefani on her national tour, and then performed before millions during MTV's New Years Even celebration.
Now with her time at Def Jam behind her, and an album coming via her own Midget Records, she's ready to show and prove. It's her way this time, and her success is on her own shoulders, just the way she likes it. "My label, my way ... I run my own sh** now," the S-O-V told her last month. "That should be interesting."
In February, Lady Sov met up with us in Los Angeles, where we had a nice long chat about her quite lengthy hiatus from music. Lady Sov explained that after her whirlwind success, she fell into a deep depression. After fulfilling most of her obligations, she retreated back to the UK, where she tried to get back to "normalcy" as she puts it.
"I was mad depressed. There was times where I didn't wanna be here anymore," Lady Sov told BallerStatus.com. "It got that deep. I felt really lonely as well. I just needed to see if taking the time off, if I wanted to do this anymore -- make music and stuff. I realized I did, and I always knew that. I just needed to clear my head a bit."
Today, she's over the depression, has her new album Jigsaw complete and ready to hit stores in April. And now, she's hitting the road to promote it.
