 A heavily pregnant M.I.A. performed at Sunday's 51st annual Grammy Awards Sunday (February 8), the day she was due to deliver.
Taking the stage with Jay-Z, T.I., Lil Wayne, and Kanye West to perform their single "Swagger Like Us," which samples her popular hit "Paper Planes," proved to be one of the Sri Lankan rapper's biggest moments of her career.
While there were concerns, at first, for M.I.A., it went off without a hitch. However, it seems she actually began having labor contractions just as the Grammys were underway.
A TV executive recently revealed the news to EW.com this week.
"She went into contractions when the show went on the air -- and she was not supposed to go on until Act 8 (as the eighth act). I asked her to just hang on until 10 p.m. ET. The kid's a gamer," said Jack Sussman.
Despite a memorable performance, M.I.A. did not take home a trophy in the category of Record of the Year, where she was nominated for "Paper Planes."
No word if the rapper has given birth as of press time.
