It's been a mystery as to why Cam'ron's relationship with Juelz Santana went south. While Juelz cited contractual disputes with the Dipset founder last year as one of the reasons, Cam recently revealed a different problem that has never been mentioned -- drug addiction.
In a recent interview with Hot 97's Miss Info, Cam'ron outted about an alleged addiction to a southern beverage known as Lean (also known as sizzurp: a mixture of prescription cough syrup and Hawaiian Punch), claiming their relationship suffered because of it.
"I shied away from Juelz a little bit," Cam admitted. "It was even a point where Jim called me like 'Yo, what's going on with you and Juelz? What's happening? He keep calling me all the time.' I told him 'He on drugs, he's sippin' Robitussin every day.' I'm not knocking anybody that does it. We not from Houston, we not from the south. That really isn't out culture, how we grew up."
He went on to say that the problem got so bad, he spoke to the rapper's mother and close friends about his concerns. But when they didn't intervene, he distanced himself.
"Juelz starting drinking sizzurp ... Robitussin. He got hooked on it, addicted to it. You go to his studio, he has like 100 Hawaiian Punches, already pre-mixed with the stuff in it," the rapper explained. "So, I kinda stopped speaking to him like 'Yo, we already smoke mad weed, we don't need to be on Robitussin.' I called his mother about it. I called his closest friends about it. They knew about it. They was like 'Cam, it's not that bad. It isn't like he's over doing it.' I'm like, 'Yo that’s like saying he just smoke a little bit of crack. It ain't that much crack, it's just a little bit.' "
Despite the problem, Cam says he and Juelz continued to keep in contact, checking in with each other by telephone. However, when Juelz and Jim Jones appeared onstage with 50 Cent in 2007, in the midst of Cam's beef with the rapper, he ceased communication all together.
"After that 50 Cent, that was the last straw me," Cam said.
Since their split, Cam sold off Juelz Santana's contract to Def Jam, and now both Juelz and Jim Jones have created their own Dipset branches -- Juelz's Skull Gang and Jim Jones' Bryd Gang.
As far as Cam, he gearing up for his return. He's planning the release of a new album, titled Crime Pays. And, tells more about his story, in detail, in the new issue of XXL.
