Russell Simmons Takes On Editor-In-Chief Role At GlobalGrind.com
Published 02/02/2009, by Tika Milan

Russell SimmonsRussell Simmons can now add Editor-In-Chief to his repertoire. The former CEO of Def Jam Records announced the full launch of GlobalGrind.com last week, in which he would act as the head of the editorial department.

According to Simmons, GlobalGrind.com is the "Huffingpost of Hip-Hop," which will act as a platform for artists to talk to the world.

"This site is the Huffingpost of Hip-Hop," Simmons said during a press conference last week. "Artists can speak to other artists, the media, and the world through this site."

"The opportunity to be Editor-In-Chief of Global Grind is an exciting and remarkable responsibility that I readily accept," the mogul added in a recent blog about the new position. "This is another chance for me further to serve the interests of the hip-hop community."

Globalgrind.com will link to hundreds of sites bolstering news content, and will serve as a social platform for the hip-hop community.

In addition to featuring news, GlobalGrind.com has also launched a "Celebrity Blogger" section that will feature more than 40 celebs -- including LL Cool J, Toccara, DJ Whoo Kid, Ne-Yo, Nas, Jim Jones, and executive Kevin Liles to name a few. The site encourages interaction between celebrities and users, while each featured blogger brings their own style and opinions on various topics.

Kevin Liles brings his executive level thinking with his first blog about "Being Presidential." "We must all step up, step out on faith, find our will and make it happen. President Obama's thrill of victory has inspired me to encourage 'The New Cool.' It is to be Presidential," he says.

Simmons hopes that a media platform like this can play a major role in a "shift of consciousness" that hip-hop has inspired throughout the country. Other rappers agree.

"I think this is a great opportunity for me to join forces with Russell and help to better the cause of hip-hop," confessed LL COol J. "This is a culture that has grown enormously. We went from not hearing our music in the daytime to having a Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball for a new president."

Simmons added, "whether you're a celebrity, a politician, an artist, a comedian or an emerging bloger, Global Grind gives the community a powerful platform to speak to each other, the media and the world."
