If you saw the "Notorious" film, you might have noticed how Lil Kim's character was portrayed as the late rapper's jump-off above anything else. Well, Kim has publicly expressed her displeasure with her portrayal in the film, and now Diddy is backing her up.
Kim previously stated, via an interview with Hip Hop Weekly, that she was disappointed by her lack of involvement in the making of "Notorious," despite having a professional and personal relationship with Biggie.
In a recent vlog by Diddy, via YouTube, the hip-hop mogul addressed Kim and the way she was perceived in the biopic.
"Kim hit me and was like 'Yo Puff, imagine how I feel.' I gotta say that, what ya'll saw in the movie about Kim, that's not like the real Kimberly Jones," said Diddy.
"It's more than that, he didn't meet her like that," B.I.G.'s longtime friend D-Roc added.
According to Diddy, Lil Kim had a great relationship with the Notorious B.I.G., and she was a lot more respected by the rapper than the movie led on.
"The only thing that I can say about the movie, that you may have got that was really great from they relationship, was that he really respected her as an artist, as an emcee, and was into her like that. All the other extra stuff, it's a movie," Diddy explained.
"Don't believe what you saw in the movie. It wasn't just about that," he continued. "She was with us, that was our queen. She'll always been the queen. She got every right to feel that way. The movie's really about B.I.G., so don't focus on none of our parts. Because [you gotta] focus on B.I.G. the man."
Despite the mis-portrayal of Kim, the Bad Boy Records founder insisted that fans give her a chance to tell her side, which he said would be explained in her own movie.
"Kim will have her chance. Her own movie will come out there, but give Kim her chance," he said.
"Notorious" landed at no. 4 at the box office after its opening weekend, raking in $21.5. Since, its release, it's gone on to sell over $30 million to date.
