MTV News just named their "Man of the Year," and to no surprise the winner is a young New Orleans rapper who goes by the name Lil Wayne.
Over the past year, the rapper has dominated hip-hop, and has garnered the unofficial title of "Best Rapper Alive" by legions of his fans, and some of his critics. That, coupled with one of the best selling albums of the year with Tha Carter III, Weezy has earned the coveted honor by the MTV family.
"No one flooded the market with as much product and -- in a genre loaded with compelling characters -- no one was as mercurial, controversial, hilarious and, well, bizarre as Weezy was," MTV.com's story reads.
Some of the accolades young Weezy garnered this year, included a top 3 ranking in MTV's "Hottest MC In The Game" list, earned eight Grammy nominations, and will definitely land atop several lists for Album of 2008 when the New Year begins.
Kanye West came right behind Weezy for the runner-up position, thanks to honors such as being MTV's "Hottest MC In The Game," and his latest album 808s and Heartbreak.
Others included T-Pain at #8, and T.I. at #9, among others.
Woman of the year included a list of pop megastars such as Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry. But, Danity Kane's Aubrey O'Day nabbed #7, Beyonce's alter-ego Sasha Fierce claimed #6, Rihanna claimed #8, and Beyonce rounded out the top 10.
However, it was the fans of the hit franchise "Twilight" that was MTV's pick for #1 Woman of the Year.
