New York based rapper Persia -- known mostly as a contestant on VH1's "The (White) Rapper Show" -- has been convicted of a gun possession charge, and could face up to 3 1/2 years in prison.
According to her MySpace page (ThugLifeArmy.com), the rapper (real name: Rachel Murecieosn) was recently convicted gun possession stemming from an arrest in 2006, which she claims was caused by "an extreme case of domestic violence."
In a blog entry on MySpace, she explained why she had the gun, and what happened:
"I was in a very abusive relationship and felt like I couldn't leave or else my family would be harmed. It became too much and I had to go," Persia wrote. "I was stalked and threatened for months, as was my family -- my mom had a heart attack due to this man. I went into hiding, but honestly who can live like that? Someone bought a gun, so that I could get from my front door to my car without being attacked or even killed."
She further explained that the man in her life was an informant, and if she filed a official complaint, he'd come after her after being released.
"The guy was a police informant, so I felt helpless," the rapper explained. "I couldn't call the cops because he would get right out and come looking for me. I have seen women die with orders of protection in their hands. This man poured gasoline beside my mom's house and told me he would kill the only thing I loved. What would you do?"
Furthermore, Persia said her legal representation was no help, and now seeking new counsel to help in her case. However, she says she's not very hopeful.
She was scheduled for sentencing on Friday (December 12), but revealed this week her date has been postponed for unknown reasons.
Persia asks her fans to reach out and/or write to the Ulster County District Attorney in hopes that he may reconsider her sentence.
The address is as follows: D. Holley Carnright, District Attorney, c/o Ulster County Courthouse, 275 Wall Street, Kingston, NY 12401.
