TBS comedy/drama TV sitcom, Tyler Perry's House of Payne, may be just so-so among television sitcoms overall, but among African-American audiences, it's tops anything else on the tube.
According to Broadcasting & Cable, the show is #1 on primetime among African-Americans aged 18-54 across its seven seasons in running on TBS, as well as it's syndicated double-runs.
The show, in primetime, beats such ratings monsters such as Grey's Anatomy, Dancing With the Stars, Desperate Housewives and CSI in all African-American adult demographics. It scores a 6.3 household average, and that rating climbs as audiences age, scoring a 7.1 among adults 18-49 and a 7.6 among adults 25-54.
Fox's Family Guy is House of Payne's closest competition among African-Americans 18-34 at a 5.2, while ABC's Grey's Anatomy wins third place at a 5.2, followed by CBS' 60 Minutes at a 4.8.
With these kinds of numbers, and the reach it has within the black community, the parent company says it's a steal for advertisers.
"If you want to reach 7.1% of the African American audience among adults 18-49, you can do that. And you can buy House of Payne for a lot less than CSI," says Bob Cesa, Twentieth's executive VP of ad sales. "There's no doubt that House of Payne is a screaming deal."
For those who haven't tuned in yet, the show's official site says Payne is a comedy series about a multigenerational, working class family who experiences all of life's struggles with faith, love and most importantly humor.
Tyler Perry's House of Payne airs on Wednesday at 8/7 c on TBS.
