Suge Knight, once a powerful music mogul, is suing rapper Kanye West for his publicized shooting in 2005, claiming West is to blame because it was his party.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Knight and his attorneys filed a lawsuit a day before Halloween in Los Angeles, blaming Kanye for allowing an individual to sneak a gun in to his pre-MTV VMAs past at Miami's The Shore Club three years ago, resulting in Knight being shot.

Knight holds West accountable for not taking "reasonable measures to ensure weapons were not brought into the party," failing to "warn him of the dangers presented by weapons" that were allowed into the event, and for losing a 15-carat diamond stud earring worth $135,000 during the incident.

The lawsuit claims that Knight's injuries -- resulting from shot to his upper right leg that shattered a bone -- he had to undergo months of physical therapy, suffered permanent impairment in his mobility, and racked up significant medical expenses -- including medical treatment, ambulance costs, and the cost of a private jet to transport him from Miami to Los Angeles.

All of this, Knight claims, let him unable to work, resulting in the loss of income.

According to TMZ, despite Knight being bankrupt, he has worked out a deal with the court that will allow him to keep a percentage of any money he collects from the suit.

Inquiries to West's camp were not returned at press time.
