The Game Sued By Alleged Victim Of Basketball Incident
By Allen Starbury ♦ Published 03/14/2008

Despite paying his debt to society -- a total of eight days out of a 60-day sentence -- for felony possession of a firearm in a school zone, The Game isn't all the way in the clear in regard to the incident that caused it all.

Shannon Rodrick -- who claimed the rapper pulled a gun on him last year during a pick-up basketball game held at the Rita Walters Educational Learning Complex in Los Angeles -- has now filed a civil suit against Game, claiming assault, battery, civil rights violation and negligence, according to documents obtained by gossip site TMZ.com.

The lawsuit was filed on Thursday (March 13) in Los Angeles Superior Court, naming The Game (real name: Jayceon Taylor), City Hoops and sponsor Nike Basketball.

In the suit, Rodrick alleges that his team and the opposing team, which Game was playing for became very competitive, resulting in "words being exchanged by both teams and coaches in an aggressive manner."

Later, The Game is accused of telling Rodrick that his "team is garbage," then further provoked him by saying "you guys are nothing but a bunch of busters." However, when Rodrick refused to acknowledge the rapper's taunts, that's when Game allegedly became angry, and when Rodrick turned around, he was sucker-punched.

This is when The Game alleged ran back to his vehicle, retrieved a gun and approached him, stating he was "going to blast this fool."

The rapper was later charged with three felonies -- including making criminal threats, possession of a firearm in a school zone and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of an officer -- but two of the charges were dropped as a part of a plea deal where Game would plead no contest to felony weapons charges.

He received a 60-day jail sentence, but was released just eight days after turning himself in to begin his sentence, but caused confusion as to whether he was actually released or not, due to conflicting statements by his manager and lawyer.

In the suit, Rodrick claims, as a result of Game's negligence, he was "injured in his health, strength and activity" and suffers from both mental and emotional anguish, as well as embarrassment.

He seeking an undetermined amount in damages for medical, punitive and attorney's fees. Damages are to be determined at trial.
