BET is expanding its programming past music and into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), via an upcoming series called "Iron Ring."
According to a press release, the new show will showcase match-ups between fighters who are backed by teams of celebrity owners, several of which are rappers.
Some of the series' owners include championship boxer Floyd Mayweather and Rick Ross, who will manage the Money Mayweather Boys; Ludacris repping Team Luda and Nelly with Team Nelly; T.I., Big Kuntry, Young Dro, DJ Drama and Alpha Omega will lead Team Grand Hustle; Juelz Santana and Jim Jones will run Dipset; and Lil Jon heading his own Head Busters.
Some of the rappers were just as excited as the fighters who got involved. Ludacris, for example, had to be involved once he heard about it.
"When I heard BET was bringing 'Iron Ring' to the air... I wanted to be involved in any way I could," said Ludacris in a statement. "What people will get out of 'Iron Ring' is that it's less about the man in the fight and more about the fight in the man."
Fighters involved will brawl for $100,000 in prize money. They will go toe-to-toe using fighting techniques like jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, boxing, kickboxing and wrestling.
"Iron Ring" will run for 13 episodes of 30 minutes a piece. The fisrt will premiere on BET on March 18 at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
