Singer Erykah Badu appeared in front of Israeli fans and journalists Thursday (January 31), visibly showing her non-support for the War in Iraq, while boasting support for Louis Farrakhan and Palestinian hip-hop.
The 36-year-old singer is currently in Tel Aviv, Israel where she is scheduled to perform on Saturday night (February 2), but Thursday appeared in at a press conference to answer media questions.
Showing up in an anti-Iraq t-shirt that donned the words "Out Of Iraq," Badu spoke on she identified with Palestinians and their hip-hop scene, saying they were a part of her "tribe," according to the Associated Press.
"They use [hip-hop] as a form of liberation, as a form of pre-resistance, as a form of therapy," she said, although she was unable to name one Israeli hip-hop act.
She later defended Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, whose statements have been labeled "bigoted and anti-Semitic" by the Anti-Defamation League.
"[Farrakhan is] not an anti-Semite. He loves all people," Badu said.
She is currently promoting the release of her next album, Nu AmErykah, which is slated for release on February 26, the date of Savior's Day, a Nation of Islam holiday.
