Fabolous Breaks Silence On Manhattan Nightclub Stabbing
By Miles Bennett ♦ Published 12/16/2007

There has been much speculation surrounding the incident where his childhood friend was stabbed to death at a Manhattan night club during the evening of Thanksgiving.

First it was widely reported that Fabolous was at the nightclub during the night in question, or at least there hours before it took place. Then, it was reported that the late victim, Shamel McKinney, was involved in a robbery crew that preys on clubgoers, of which were a part of the rapper's entourage.

Well, Fabolous recently broke his silence about the entire incident, insisting he was nowhere near the crime scene, and in fact, was just as shocked as everyone else.

In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, the rapper said that he was actually in New Jersey spending Thanksgiving with his family during the night in question and had no idea what was taking place.

"On Thanksgiving, I think I came out of the house one time -- to go get eggnog," Fabolous told the paper. "And there wasn't any eggnog at Club Duvet.

"It was very much a shock to me," he continued.

According to the rapper, he "woke up to the bad news" the next morning, just like everyone else.

The rapper further explained that despite reports, McKinney is night the type of person he's been made out to be, referring to the allegations that McKinney is part of a robbery crew connected to the rapper.

"When you hear stuff happened to bad guys, you're like, 'Okay, yeah, it was coming to them.' Shamel's not that kind of person," said Fab. "I was waiting to hear more of the story. Unfortunately, when I heard the story, I ended up being in it."

Fab denied that his Street Family crew was in any way connected to any of the reported robberies, including the rumored stick-ups of celebrities such as boxer Zab Judah and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Sebastian Telfair, who Fab's crew allegedly attempted to rob.

"I in no way support criminal activity," Fab, calling his Street Family crew, "a crew of rappers," not "a gang of street homies.

"Most of the people that are around me work in association with what I do in the music business," he added. "I don't have any hangers-on. I can't really afford them."

Police say that McKinney may have been stabbed after trying to steal jewelry off the neck of another clubgoer, Anthony Taylor, who has -- since the incident -- been arrested and has to face second-degree murder charges.

25-year-old Shamel McKinney was stabbed to death during the early morning hours of November 23 at Club Duvet. Fabolous was rumored to have been there hours before the stabbing took place.
