Rapper Ju-Ju, one half of Queens, NY based duo The Beatnuts, was arrested in Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday night (December 13), following a performance.
According to Sweden's The Local, the rapper (real name: Jerry Tineo) was taken into custody and charged with assault after a scuffle took place backstage following the group's set at the Debaser Medis.
Police spokesman Bo Olsson told The Local that the assault was minor, but because Ju-Ju was not a Swedish citizen, he was considered a possible flight risk, so he could be held for as long as 36 hours.
Ju-Ju denied the charges to police, but Annelie Åkerstedt, managing director of Debaser Medis, disputed the MC's account that the venue's security guards had not fulfilled their duties.
"That's pure bullsh**," said Åkerstedt. "The security did the job they are supposed to do. They didn't let anybody backstage who wasn't supposed to be there. They intervened quickly and called the police, exactly as they should."
The Beatnuts are a hip-hop duo who hails from Queens, New York, consisting of Psycho Les and Ju-Ju. In the early 90s they gained notoriety as the only Latino members of the Native Tongues Family, which also included Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. They are also acknowledged for their production.
