T.I. Challenges Evidence In Weapons Case
By Allen Starbury ♦ Published 11/21/2007

Rapper T.I. is arguing that the evidence put together against him and statements he made to authorities were illegally obtained, regarding his federal weapons case.

According to the Associated Press, the legal team for the 27-year-old rapper (real name: Clifford Harris, Jr.) filed motions in U.S. District Court on Monday (November 19) asking that prohibit the use of evidence seized during the day of his arrest, as well as the statements he made.

T.I.'s attorneys allege that the rapper's vehicle was searched without a warrant, consent or probable cause, and that his statements he made to authorities may not have been voluntary, and agents may have failed to honor his rights.

Further details about the motions were not immediately revealed.

A ruling is expected to come at a later court date.

T.I. is currently facing multiple weapons charges, stemming from an October 13 arrest when federal agents set up a sting to catch the rapper in the act of purchasing machine guns and silencers -- weapons he is not allowed to purchase due to his criminal record. He was arrested on in an Atlanta parking lot, allegedly buying weapons from his bodyguard, who was an informant for authorities.

If convicted he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each weapons charge.

He is currently free on $3 million bond and restricted to house arrest.
